GynecomastiaMen and women all over Dallas are often met with stubborn pockets of fat they can’t seem to get rid of, no matter what they try. This diet. That diet. Cardio. Weight training. Nothing seems to do the trick for those last few inches. It can be downright frustrating!

But wait! There’s a solution, and Dr. Hopkins is just the man for the job! Through liposuction in his Dallas office, he is able to remove unwanted fat through a series of tiny incisions. This relatively minor elective plastic surgery procedure is most often performed on the abdomen and thighs, but Dr. Hopkins can perform liposuction on almost any area of the body where extra fat is hiding, such as the face, neck, arms, back, and buttocks.

Dr. Hopkins can provide amazing body contouring through liposuction, but one of the most common questions he receives during initial consultations with his potential patients is regarding whether or not the procedure results are permanent. Dr. Hopkins believes in fully educating his patients, no matter the procedure they choose, which is why we are talking more about this question in this blog, so keep reading.

Liposuction Explained

Liposuction slims and reshapes targeted areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving the contour and proportions of the body. This plastic surgery procedure should not be considered a weight-loss procedure, and Dallas patients should be at or near their ideal weight before choosing liposuction.

To perform liposuction, a licensed and experienced member of Dr. Hopkins’ surgical team will begin by administering anesthetic medications, so you are completely asleep and unaware of your procedure. Then Dr. Hopkins will inject pain medication and a saline solution to reduce pain and swelling during your recovery. He will then make tiny incisions in the treatment area through which he will insert a small, flexible tube called a cannula. The cannula is gently moved back and forth to dislodge and remove unwanted fat from your treatment area.

When you wake up from your procedure, you may experience minor discomfort, swelling, and water retention in the areas that were treated. Not to worry! Dr. Hopkins will prescribe pain medication and rest to reduce these symptoms. Be sure to also follow his aftercare instructions to a “T” so that you will heal quickly and properly.

Will My Results Be Permanent?

Dallas patients should see their final liposuction results within a few weeks after their procedure. While the degree of change each patient experiences will vary, liposuction provides amazing body contouring benefits for all patients. This plastic surgery procedure is truly a long-term treatment. When fat is removed from the body, that fat is gone for good and will not grow back. However, it is important that liposuction patients lead a healthy and active lifestyle to ensure they benefit from their results for years to come. While your body won’t grow new fat cells, your existing fat cells can increase in size with overall weight gain. Weight gain is the enemy of liposuction results. This is why it’s so important that you be at or near your ideal weight and have a plan in place to maintain it after your procedure.
